We’re all at it

Radio National’s Background Briefing recently had an interesting program on social media. It was about issues like privacy on Facebook and sentiment mining, where what you write online becomes valuable data for organisations.
.
Along the way, they mentioned foursquare, a smart phone geolocation app that works as a social media tool. foursqare is also a game, allowing you to become the “mayor” of a location by being its most frequent visitor. Currently,

At last, we beat the Cats!
By our chuffed correspondent, Nicky

Now we just have to win a Premiership.

Like the Blogalogue comp’s Otis B Driftwood, we’re beating all-comers. This week, Otis extended his grip at the top of the ladder with a 7 win haul. Now he’s 3 clear of his nearest opponent, bluesgal, with daylight (actually, harps) 3rd.

Go Sianters!
Nicky

PS: My hammy’s fealing much better.

Public network down
The public computers, for web access and printing etc, are not working at the Frankston and Carrum Downs libraries. Neither are the photocopiers, nor the catalogue computers. You can’t even book a PC for a future date.

We apologise for the inconvenience.

We’ll let you know via the blog when things are working again.

Crime pays
Crime writer Peter Temple has won the 2010 Miles Franklin Literary Award, celebrating the best in Australian literature. This adds to his glittering list of awards accepted in recent years.

Temple was suitably gobsmacked, observing that the judges will “take the flack for giving the Miles Franklin to a crime writer…”.

Of course, we have the winning book: Truth.

WTB?
With our befuddled correspondent, Herbie

What’s up with Brisbane? Thanks to our even more northerly friends, the Tigers are on a roll, with a winning streak of 2! The Lions are a one man team, and he’s not the Carlton reject.

And my team hasn’t even played! And the Blogalogue doesn’t have a ladder this week! I don’t get it. What the bear’s going on?

I am and always will be,

Winning by increments
By our hopeful correspondent, Dees Bear

The last time we played the Pies, we lost by a point. At the weekend, we drew. So, next time I’m planning on a one point victory to Melbourne.

Fortunately, draws are counted as a win for all in the Blogalogue competition, so while neither the Dees nor the Maggies won, all our tipsters got it right. Last year’s winner, Wendy, is back in the hunt with a round topping 7 win haul, while our dominant player, bluesgal, has…

Tue Sep 29

As some of us at Blogalogue Central were feigning disinterest over the weekend, we decided to ask a couple of interested parties who won the big one. So…

Refgurl looks happy.
Think there’s a Go Cats theme there.

This Dementor-like presence, seen for the last 6 months sporting a a red, white and black scarf, just tried to suck the joy from others whenever approached.

I think we got our answer.
